There needs to be a Twitter Domain Name Service
I recently acquired a domain name in preparation for a product launch shortly. Being the cool and suave marketing expert that I am, two weeks later I have the idea to get the matching twitter account. Alas, the name is taken and, to make matters worse, by some guy whose only tweet every, was "schooll...", two years ago. So, in the end, I'll have to settle for example_com, or perhaps example'com, since example.com is not an allowed twitter name.
What would be really cool, though, would be if Twitter allowed a period in their twitter names - but only for domain name owners. Verification is easy, too, just put
<div class="tweetdomains"><div class="email">youremail@example.com</div></div>
on your index page, go to twitter.com/tweetdomain and get your password sent to you.
Twitter: wouldn't you love 200 million instantaneous new accounts?
P.S.: Yes, I know, there are technical challenges, especially when altering a data scheme like proposed here for the names. But hey, no pain, no gain!
