Weeklog for Week 48: November 25 to December 01
Progress
Got some new ESP32s with an LED-matrix on the back and tried to use them with MicroPython, but initially failed. After some searching I found out that I am the idiot: downloaded the correct binary, used the correct commands, and suddenly it worked.
As a further note, Micropython supports all kinds of devices now and support is getting better and better. It is so fantastic. I had thought about using CircuitPython instead some time ago, and when I look it up that also has a massive list of supported devices (and additional libraries). And now I'm not sure which one I should use.
Lots of Weihnachtsmarkt during the weekend. I had a drink too much and paid for it the next morning when I had to go swimming.

Books
- Company by Max Barry: so great I had to finish it within the weeks.
Games
- Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective: This is part of the detective games I've had on my waitlist and it's a game made by Capcom in their un-copyable style, and also very anime. The puzzles are interesting and the case is... weird? I guess? But I've only done the first few minutes, so let's wait until I see more.
- Astroneer
- Rise of the Golden Idol: It's so good. I mean, the art is still quite off-putting and the cases are... weirdSo every time I play Golden Idol I'm more inclined to make my own version of it., but the feeling it creates in the player is absolutely fantastic. You feel stupid and smart and stupid and then super-smart, you notice stuff (but probably also not notice loads of details) and combine and deduct and when you finally figure it out, the emotions you feel are just... amazing!
- Cocoon: I enjoy this game with its relaxed puzzles very much. There is so much geometry, and all of it looks so weird! 9/10
Backlog
- Dredge (from waitlist)
- Reka (from waitlist)
- Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (from waitlist)

- How much thrust does a ceiling fan produce? - YouTube: it's interesting to see the actual number, but was all that talking beforehand necessary? Of course a fan generates lift, no need to point it out seven times in three different ways.
